Broadway Production, Jersey Boys, and What Makes it Special

Jersey Boys, a Broadway production, tells the story of four boys raised in Newark, New Jersey. These boys had a dream, but really didn’t have the means to make it happen. They beat the odds and performed rock music, in the 50’s and 60’s, like no other rock band could. Jersey Boys is based on the book written by Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice, which tells the story of these four boys.

These four boys, Frankie Valli and three others, formed the band known as the Four Seasons. There name may not be as recongnizable as some of their songs, like “Big Girls Don’t Cry” and “Walk Like a Man”. This documentary production tells the story of these boys, from each of their f95zone viewpoints, about their struggles and successes.

Jersey Boys does a phenomenal job performing rock music like it was back in the 60’s – this is the only chance you will have to experience such passionate music! Between the years of ’62 and ’67, 13 of their songs had made it to the top 10 list; 24 had made it to the top 40’s. These are the songs that everyone knows, songs like “Rag Doll”, “Big Girls Don’t Cry”, “Sherry”, and “Walk Like a Man”.

This production has an amazing mix of musical and concert – entertainment like never before. Directed by Des McAnuff, the Jersey Boys began with the performance at the August Wilson Theatre in November of 2005. The production starred John Lloyd as Frankie Valli, Christian Hoff as Tommy DeVito, Daniel Reichard as Bob Gaudio, and J. Robert Spencer as Nikki Massi. It wasn’t long before the show won four Tony Awards, one of them being for “Best Musical”.

With all of this fame, there was no choice but to start touring major cities. Jersey Boys was presented in the Curran Theatre, in San Francisco, in December 2006. In May 2007, the production moved on to Los Angeles at the Ahmanson Theatre. In October, of the same year, Jersey Boys was the highlight on the LaSalle Bank Theatre in Chicago. (Michal Ingersoll played the role of Nick Massi in the Chicago production.) Jersey Boys was such a hit, by this point, that the real life Frankie Valli and Bob Guardio attended the Chicago performance on opening night.

In 2007, during the months of November and December, the production mad a special appearance back at the Curran Theatre. In May, of the same year, the honored Las Vegas with their presence. They performed in the brand new Jersey Boys theatre in the Plazzo Hotel. The same year they paid tribute to the Sopranos – an HBO family – at the Tony Awards.

Jersey Boys then debuted at the Prince Edward Theatre – in West End London – in February of 2008. Toronto is also getting in on the hype; the Jersey Boys debuted at the Toronto Centre until December of 2008. Aussie’s are welcoming the production in their Princess Theatre, in Melbourne, in July of 2009.

Rhino Entertainment produced, and released, Jersey Boys first CD in 2005 entitled “Jersey Boys: Original Broadway Cast Recording”. By February of 2008 – just over two years later – the album had sold over 500,000 copies, and was certified Gold! This is proof of the breathtaking experience you will enjoy when you go see the production! Jersey Boys continues to tour and may be hitting your city soon.
